Why the Art?

Why the Art?

At its very core - I believe fashion is a renaissance pursuit. It combines the forces of science, culture, and art, in a way that is felt and experienced by everyone. Even those who proclaim themselves as unfashionable ultimately wear clothes…

Art has inspired me since primary school. I have loved it since creating self portraits in year 3, it held my hand during year 12 exams, and it rocked me to sleep far from home. It was inevitable that art would be used to explore Berali’s Debut Collection, how it is presented, and who it is made for.

The art behind this collection inevitably brought me back to…Me? Each piece shares a unique fraction of the plate that makes up Berali. A plate that holds a meal, that feeds your soul. Art like Spring Frost by Elioth Gruner  - dabbled light, cold earth, warm breath. This piece feels like early mornings at the bus stop, Saturdays before netball. The gravel beneath boots and school shoes.

Or pieces like The Balcony 2 by Brett Whitley. Warm air, still waters. The kind of freshness you feel on your skin, and in your hair. The kind of warmth that squeezes your lungs and prickles your legs. This piece feels like freedom, like growing up - like far away.

Berali is for everyone - but for me, Berali is a collection of my lived experiences. At first, felt through art as my guiding force, now distilled into something tangible, functional, and relatable. Australian made and Australian worn - Berali is made for you, and I hope you feel it as much as I do.

I have been discussing these pieces on Instagram. I am sharing what drove me to select them, and what is continuing to drive me, using them as my fuel.

I hope you enjoy exploring this with me. Thank you.
