Fibres: Feel empowered with your purchase

I’m sure many of you have heard me yap on about how important it is to use and wear natural fibres. 

Berali Jumpers are made from 100% Australian Fine Merino. 

So what does that even mean? 

Natural fibres encompass fibres made from plant and animal material, as opposed to man made materials such as plastics and nylons. This means that, like plants and animals themselves, Natural fibres will eventually decompose, rather than staying on the planet for years to come unlike its synthetic counterparts.

100% Australian Fine Merino is classified and known for its long fibres, and low microns. 

Again - what does that mean. 

When fibres are long, they have more flexibility. Imagine a pool noodle - when it's long, it can bend and wobble, when it is cut short, it becomes a sad little stub. No flexibility, no movement. Fibre works in the same way. When fibres are long they are able to glide over the skin, bend and shift with our movements, and adhere to the wear and tear that all clothing goes through. This feature is otherwise described as the “softness” of wool. When a fibre is shorter, it cannot move with us. Remember that itchy jumper your mum used to force you into? The shorter fibres could not glide over your skin, so instead they hook on, get stuck, cause a riot. Short fibres - never again. 

And low micron? Micron is basically the diameter, or the thickness, of a wool fibre. The thinner, the more flexible our pool noodle can be! Think - spaghetti

The micron number can range all the way from 10 to as high as 40 or more! Berali’s wool sits at 22, striking the balance between super soft, but long lasting and durable. So of course, the more flexible the fibre, the softer the wool - no more of mum’s itchy jumper!
